$0.99 Pricing and Volume 2 News

Hello Readers!  I'm gearing up for the release of Volume 2 (coming out late February or early March).  The book has been completed, and now I'm going through the stages of editing.  Also the cover design has been done, check it out:

ALSO, as a way to hype it up and get more readers into the halfkind world, Halfkinds Volume 1: Contact will now only cost 0.99 cents, and that's not going to change any time soon.  The 3.99 price had a good run, but I really want people to test out Volume 1, because I think it's a really good story.  Tell all your friends, as there's not much risk in losing a buck versus for entertainment.  I've spent a lot of time crafting this whole series, and the greatest joy I have is having people read my work.

Humans In a New Society

Since I decided to 'go public' with my book, I'd have to admit my sales have been rather modest.  I think a lot of people have a tough time wrapping their heads around the concept of the book.  There are a lot of 'what if's' that my premise invites.

In the end, I intended to make a core story about the group of halfkinds vs the team sent to kill them.  This basic premise could have been applied to any background really, but the setting of a society of various intelligent species makes way for some  interesting scenarios.  I really enjoyed mapping out who would be allied with who, based on their animal backgrounds.  I feel like my choices are logical, dogs would naturally ally with humans, while the wolves would hate the dogs for being suck ups to a species that have brought so much destruction to their kind.

This was just a small sample of the things I thought about when building the foundations of the society my story would be placed in.  The core of the story is always about the outcasts vs the majority, but the setting adds the one thing that sets it apart from the cliche.  My intention is to let the reader see the similarities from this imaginary society and the one we live in today.  Some are obvious, some are not, but I wanted to make something that isn't just a cookie cutter sci fi book, I wanted to write something that went a little beyond that.

Welcome to the first post!  I've created this blog to update my fans about the Halfkinds Series.  Here you'll find insights into the writing process, background about the story itself, character analysis, sample chapters, and tidbits here and there.

Hopefully you all enjoy it.  For starters here's a synopsis for those who have stumbled onto this page:

In the twenty fourth century, a scientific experiment gave a few species the gift of intelligence, and after much struggle, they've carved out a place in society. By the thirtieth century, humans find themselves co-existing, negotiating, and residing on Earth with these animals as equals.

Maya Lawton is a lonely prostitute living in this world. She gives birth to the first halfkinds, creatures who are half animal-kind, and half mankind. Since interspecies breeding is illegal, she is forced into seclusion and raises them alone. Then one day, without warning, she dies, and her death leads to their discovery. Abandoned and lost, this family of halfkinds plan to escape to a terraformed moon. But the law is after them. The order is to kill, sent by the highest authority, the United Species Alliance.

The Halfkinds series is a science fiction saga filled with complex characters. It's set in a unique future where creatures are fighting for their own place in a once human dominated society. Through the point of views of several characters, you will see events unfold and think about what it truly means to have intelligence.
